Dr. Hans is currently responsible for the Research and Development section of the Nuclear Medicine Division at the University of Geneva and is Assistant Adjunct Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, USA. A recognized expert on quantitative ultrasound, he is on the cutting edge of QUS technology and its capacity to diagnose subtle physiological changes accompanying changes in bone quality. He has particular expertise in developing DXA/ultrasound protocol, quality assurance, and the training of research assistants for large, multi-center clinical trials. Dr. Hans earned an M.S. with honors and a Ph.D. in human biology/medical physics, also with honors, from Claude Bernard University in Lyon, France. Dr. Hans was formerly the director of the quality assurance center and the associate director of research and development for the ultrasound unit at the Osteoporosis and Arthritis Research Group of the University of California San Francisco. He had previously held similar positions in Europe. At the Centre d`Epidemiologie des Osteoporoses in Lyon, he was director of the bone densitometry and new technologies department, as well as director of the quality control department. At the Centre Lyonnais des Investigations des Osteoporoses, he served as director of the dual X-ray absorptiometry and ultrasound department. Dr. Hans is an active member of eight international societies and advisory boards. He serves as a reviewer for seven international scientific journals, has published more than 50 articles, and has contributed chapters to 11 books.
